Sustainability
Sustainability is measured by comparing numerous indicators. The assessment criteria are divided into six areas:
- 1. Economic indicators
- 2. Ecological indicators
- 3. Labor practices & decent work
- 4. Human rights
- 5. Society
- 6. Product responsibility
For the individual evaluation indicators there are numerous criteria which are evaluated within the reporting framework. The following list includes some of the ecological footprint criteria which were examined in the case of HUESKER.
- Weight and volume of the materials used
- Direct energy consumption
- Indirect energy consumption
- Total water consumption
- Areas utilized in nature reserves and regions rich in species
- Direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions
- Amount of waste according to type and method of disposal
- Initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of products
- Proportions of products packaging which can be re-utilized
- Sanctions against non-compliance of environmental regulations
… and numerous other criteria.
