Transport canals, ornamental lakes or leisure waterways, reservoirs and coastal protection - woven and non-woven fabrics, geogrids or composites find uses in all these areas. The tasks they perform include: separation, filtration, drainage, protection, containment, reinforcing, and sealing.

Some examples: concrete mattresses are used for anti-scour measures and for protecting harbour basins. Geosynthetic clay liners line canals and lagoons and are also used to protect ground water sources. High strength wovens act as effective reinforcement in groyne and breakwater foundations. Sandbags and sand tubes are used in coastal protection works.
